ANSWER: Occasionally a file will become damaged and refuse to save properly.
1. Try to save the file with a different name using File/Save As.
2. If the above does not work, copy the contents into a new file as follows:
Select the entire drawing with Ctrl+A. Then Ctrl+C to copy to the clipboard. Then File/New to open a new drawing. Then Ctrl+V to paste.
Please let us know how you get on.
PS In your version 12, the Select All command may not be Ctrl+A. If in doubt, use the Select All command on the Edit menu.

AnswerThe plot thickens! I do not know whether you find these problems with only one particular file or all files.
I have answered problems before where the user was loading many photographs onto the CorelDraw page, quickly leading to absolutely massive file sizes. I feel sure CorelDraw was not designed for this kind of child-like use and although in theory it should be able to cope, in practice it can lead to all sorts of problems. If you are loading multiple large photos into CorelDraw it is desirable to scale each image to the size you want and then immediately Resample it. That way, the unneeded detail will be discarded and file size will be massively reduced.
If you are working with modest drawings and small file sizes I can only think that something has gone wrong with your installation, so I would uninstall and reinstall with a reboot and maybe a defrag in between.
With regard to your available hard disc space. I think CorelDraw will probably need twice the file size of available space in order to work, because it will maintain a temporary file as well as the actual file.
