Question
QUESTION: Hi there:

Have an issue with CorelDraw Graphics Suite 12 not keeping its file association. Even while having open this program with...and choosing Corel Draw Graphics Suite 12, the app will open and than revert back to Microsoft Paint.

How can I correct this?

Thanks

ANSWER: Right-click on your file and choose Open With..

Ignore the list which appears and click "Choose Program.." at the bottom. A dialog box will appear.

In the list, highlight the program you want to use.

Check the box below which says "Always use this program...etc"

Job done!

Note that you cannot "open" picture files in CorelDraw because CorelDraw is a drawing program. You have to start a drawing and then import a picture with File/Import. This may explain why your association has failed in the past, because CorelDraw will not open image files on their own. This behaviour is by design.

QUESTION: Hi There:

Thanks for your reply.  I guess I wasn't clear in my initial question. I have tried the steps indicated above ("Always use this program...etc")which works only once before reverting back to MS Paint.  All Corel files when viewed in Win Explorer have file association of MS Paint and this is a bit frustrating.

Thanks again.

Answer
Hi Bobby, sorry you've had to ask this question twice. I'm sure I answered it again a couple of days ago but it seems to have got lost in the ether.

I don't know what is causing this problem but it seems like a Windows issue rather than CorelDraw. I would try to manually change the file association for .cdr in Windows Explorer.

So it's My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types, scroll down to .cdr and click Change. Then choose CorelDraw from the list and click "Always use".

If this doesn't stick then I'm afraid I'm out of ideas, sorry!
