CorelDraw/custom palette

Question
Good Day Ran,
I made a custom palette in a CorelDraw X3 file. The palette is in the User's Palettes folder and I access it through the Color Palette Browser.

I e-mailed the file to my co-worker, but the custom palette is not in his User's Palettes folder. Where might it be? How can he access it?

A related question: Let's say I use a blue palette in my first file and a red palette in my second file. I'm all done with my first file, and open up my second file. Why does the blue palette still appear instead of the red palette, like I want?

Is it true I have to go digging for the palette I want every time I open a new file? In other words, why don't the palettes "stick" with their files?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Donna

The default place that CorelDraw looks in for custom palettes is in [Users|Documents and Settings]/[User name]/Application Data/Corel/Corel Graphics Suite X4/User Custom Data/Palettes. It's quite easy to find this out by clicking the little arrow above the colour palette then choose Palette/Open and inspect the drop-down box labelled "Look in:" at the top.

If you have sent a palette to somebody I'd recommend they pop it into that folder where CorelDraw can easily find it. However that's not strictly necessary because in that Open Palette dialog box they can browse to any folder they want. If he can't locate it anywhere it's probably still attached to his email.

Regarding your Palette settings not being saved with your files. I presume this behaviour is by design and if you don't like it don't email me, email the Corel Corp! x

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!
