CorelDraw/compatibility

Question
My friend just bought a new computer. It has Windows7. He seems to be having issues with download and saving files with Corel3. Is there a patch for this, or is this 1992 Corel issue too old? And is there an update for an issue this old. He really loves this issue. He is a real whiz in design!!! Thanks for your help. Collette Acres

Answer
Hi Collette

It's hard to answer this because CorelDraw 3 is absolutely ancient and I certainly can't test it on my Windows 7 machine because I don't have it. CorelDraw X4 is the current release and it's not much different really, he could use it straight away out of the box so I suggest he upgrades. I used V5 for years, then V8, then X4 and the differences seem quite minor for my own work.

So I'm sorry but I just don't know why it doesn't work properly but the latest versions really do create good .pdfs and he won't need to buy Acrobat with X4, so if he is a design whizz that might be what swings it!

All the best,

Expertise

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!

University educated and over 2 decades of hands-on experience

My first printer was a Star LC10 Colour and I once paid £1745 for an HP Laserjet III.
