Hi Ran,

How can I get the burnt look that is on the attached art?

Thanks,

Kathy

Answer
Hi Kathy

I would guess that the fill on the right has started out as a scan of something rough. Creating something like this in CorelDraw would be a nightmare and take ages, although you might find something you like in the Artistic Media. God knows what anyone did to make the mess on the left and to be honest it is not a style I seek to emulate!

So, I'd find something to scan (perhaps a patch of denim or something). Then I might zoom into it in Photoshop and perhaps add some motion blur along the line of the thread (maybe not, but it might be worth a try!). Play with the curves to whack up the contrast - hopefully it won't be too recognisable by the time you've finished.

In CorelDraw I might trace this image, trying several settings until you get the look you want.

Have fun!

Expertise

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!

My first printer was a Star LC10 Colour and I once paid £1745 for an HP Laserjet III.
