About Beatrice Blake
Expertise
I can recommend the best places to visit with children in Costa Rica, based on their ages and the family`s interests and budget. My two children were born in Costa Rica and I have traveled with them all over the country while doing research for my guidebook, The New Key to Costa Rica. I also help people (with or without children) pick the best and most responsible ecotourism destinations and can advise them on the best ways to get around within the time they have.

Question
I am planning to go to Costa Rica in August 08 (no choice in timing due to sons' school). Trip length would be 8-10 days. I know it is rainy season so goal is to find at least some places that would likely not be total washouts while not completely missing the best places.  For sure it will be me and a 19 year old boy who would love to see some of the less traveled, exotic locations, stay at "nicer" eco-lodges (hot water, good food).  Husband and picky 15 year old son may also come.  That would require a different itinerary.  I would love 2 sets of suggestions.  Older son and I would love to snorkel (he can also scuba), see the wildlife, kayak/raft, do the bridges and zipline, etc., but not stay in the really touristy places except for a brief time.  Younger son would prefer spending at least some time in places that had A/C, pool, and maybe(ugh) tv and internet.   Cost is really not a key factor (willing to pay for luxuries, private guide, fast intra-country transport -- by air between sites would be ok).  HLEP?!

Answer
Dear Maryann,

I'd like to call your attention to the Green Season Special Tour on my website, keytocostarica.com. It is designed to maximize family fun and adventure during the summer by going to the drier northwest region of CR. The dates on my website are July 26 to August 5, but we could customize a trip for you for the dates you need. The trip would have to be repriced for your family of four (the one on my site is based on 8 participants). I would be happy to set up a time to talk to you about a trip that would engage all members of your family, perhaps using the Green Season Special as a jumping off point for discussion.

The travel agency I work with can supply you with guides, transportation, everything you need for about $1600-$2000 per person depending on which lodgings you choose.

Please write me at beatrice@keytocostarica.com, or call me at 1-877-9-ACTUAR.

Best wishes,

Beatrice Blake
