Costa Rica/Visiting Costa Rica at end of April

Question
We (hubby, me and our 25 yr old daughter) are visiting Costa Rica for 9 days apr 28 - may 6.
We like nature, birds of costa rica, and culture of Costa rica. Not too much into laying at the beach or surfing. We like to hike in the mountains though :)

Can you recommend an itinerary that would let us experience Costa rican culture as well as nature (mountains, volcanos, birds etc)? Our budget is about $3000 for the trip for the family (not including airfare).

Would you recommend we rent a car and drive ourselves or use shuttle service?

Would you be able to recommend hotel / B&B? We need a clean place to stay with bathroom, do not care for resorts or big hotels and feel that local B&B help you understand the culture better.

Thanks so much for all your help

Answer
Dear Ulka,

Thanks for your letter. I am afraid your question is outside of the services I offer on allexperts.

Here is an itinerary from my website that would be close to fitting your budget: http://keytocostarica.com/custom/nature-and-wildlife/green-paradise-tour.html

Another version that is shorter and $900 per person in triple occupancy is http://keytocostarica.com/custom/kid-friendly-tours/caribbean-coast.html. It is appropriate for adults.

If you would like to set up a travel planning consultation, please visit: http://keytocostarica.com/consultations/

The tours that we offer are quite affordable. Transportation, lodging and most meals are included, and you have the advantage of being with your own bilingual naturalist guide for part of the trip.

Please let me know if one of these possibilities interests you.

Best wishes,

Beatrice

I can recommend the best places to visit with children in Costa Rica, based on their ages and the family`s interests and budget. My two children were born in Costa Rica and I have traveled with them all over the country while doing research for my guidebook, The New Key to Costa Rica. I also help people (with or without children) pick the best and most responsible ecotourism destinations and can advise them on the best ways to get around within the time they have.
