Question
Hi,
We want to trade our timeshare and travel on American Airlines to Costa Rica. Don't know where to go but we do want to be on the beach. Can you give us any ideas where we might stay? Also should we rent a car? Should we be concerned about safety?
Thank you.

Answer
Dear Tonja,

With an Atlantic and Pacific coast full of beaches, it is hard to recommend one without knowing more about what you are looking for. That is beyond the scope of All Experts. If you would like to set up a travel planning consultation with me, I can direct you to a beach that would fit your needs and help you decide whether renting a car would be good for you. We could also talk about safety. If you are to rent a house in a beach area, you must understand very well the security measures that are in place.

Many people don't know about Costa Rica's Maritime Zone law. It is illegal to build houses or hotels right on the beach, so there are very few of them. Most properties are at least 250 meters behind the high tide line.

Please contact me, beatrice@keytocostarica.com, if you would like to set up a travel planning consultation. Charges are made clear at my website, www.keytocostarica.com.

Best wishes,

I can recommend the best places to visit with children in Costa Rica, based on their ages and the family`s interests and budget. My two children were born in Costa Rica and I have traveled with them all over the country while doing research for my guidebook, The New Key to Costa Rica. I also help people (with or without children) pick the best and most responsible ecotourism destinations and can advise them on the best ways to get around within the time they have.
