I have been counseling here on AllExperts for over five years. I have over 100 hours in personal counseling. I have experience in both individual and group counseling. I am an advocate of Energy Psychology and a practitioner of (Emotional Freedom Technique) EFT. I am a practitioner of The Release Technique. I have a B.A Degree and many hours of self-study. I have about 120 graduate hours in sociology. I was an Equal Opportunity Advisor for the US Army for three years. I am US Army Retired.

Question
okay i graduated from high school a year ago, and the last 2 years of high school my friends and i kinda drifted apart and didnt hang out, which was fine cause i didnt connect with them anyway.  then now they call me alot and want me to hang out, only i really dont want to.  i dont feel comfortable around them and they make me feel down.  i feel really bad for it cause i dont answer their calls or anything.  im sure they are mad.  I feel really bad though and kinda guilty, but yet i cant help that i dont see us as very good friends anymore.  i havent talked to them in like a year.  what do i do????

Hi Misskitty,

I’ll begin here.

Feelings are the body’s reaction to thoughts.  It usually takes many thoughts of a certain kind to produce a feeling.

Your world is “colored” by your feelings.  You see much of what you are looking at based on how you feel now.  Have good feelings and you see the world as good. Have negative feelings such as anger, fear, or anxiety and that is how you will see your world.

From your note to me, you seem to have made a decision about whom you want to associate with.   That is perfectly ok.  You know what you want.

You do have some negative feelings associated with that choice. That is what you want to deal with.  When you have done that, you will not feel any negativity about any choices you have made.

I have a technique you can practice that will allow you to release those negative feelings.  Let me know if you want that.
