Question
Hi Mel,
As a youngster, I remember listening to a lady sing a song I think was called "In Seattle". Some of the words to the song that I remember are"The hills the greenest green are in Seattle" and "like a beautiful child, growing up free and wild". I thought it was Connie Smith but can't find it any where. Please help if you can. Thanks

Answer
Hello Scott,

This song started off as the theme song for a 1968 TV series called "Here Come The Brides". It was written by Jack Keller, Hugo Montenegro and Ernie Sheldon, and was simply titled "Seattle". It was sung by The New Establishment.

Perry Como recorded and released it as a single in 1968, reaching #38 on the national charts. It was also the title song on an album he released in 1969 called "Seattle".

Connie Smith recorded her version in 1969 and it appeared on her album titled "Connie's Country".

The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle
And the hills the greenest green, in Seattle
Like a beautiful child, growing up, free an' wild
Full of hopes an' full of fears, full of laughter, full of tears
Full of dreams to last the years, in Seattle. . .in Seattle

When it's time to leave your home and your loved ones
It's the hardest thing a boy can ever do
An' you pray that you will find someone warm an' sweet an' kind
But you're not sure what's waiting there for you

The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle
And the hills the greenest green, in Seattle
Like a beautiful child, growing up, free an' wild
Full of hopes an' full of fears, full of laughter, full of tears
Full of dreams to last the years, in Seattle. . .in Seattle

(Instrumental break)

When you find your own true love, you will know it
By her smile, by the look in her eye
Scent of pine trees in the air, never knew a day so fair
It makes you feel so proud that you could cry

The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle
And the hills the greenest green, in Seattle
Like a beautiful child, growing up, free an' wild
Full of hopes an' full of fears, full of laughter, full of tears
Full of dreams to last the years, in Seattle. . .in Seattle

In Seattle . . . in Seattle . . . in Seattle!

Glad to be of help. Cheers......Mel.

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.
