"sitting on the front porch staring down the road wondering if she'll come back this time i don't know, after she packed and she looked back there were no tears in hers eye" its an old song that my dad always listened to when i was young i I've bin trying to find out who sang it.

Answer
Hello Anthony,

That's George Strait's "Baby's Gotten Good At Goodbye". It was a #1 Country hit in January 1989 and also appeared on his album "Beyond The Neon Blue".

What a rotten day this turned out to be
I still can't believe she'd leave so easily
She just got all her things, threw ‘em into a pile
Then she loaded her car and said after a while
She'd done this before, but this time she didn't cry

That's why I'm sittin' on the front steps
Staring down the road, wond’rin' if she'll come back
This time I don't know
After she packed, when she looked back
There were no tears in her eyes
And that's got me worried, thinking
Maybe my baby's gotten good at goodbye.

All the times before, she'd break down and cry
She'd make her threats, but her heart wasn't set on goodbye
She just wanted me to hear what she had to say.
Now I'm lost for words since she went away
She may not return for this time she didn't cry

That's why I'm sittin' on the front steps
Staring down the road, wond’rin' if she'll come back
This time I don't know
After she packed, when she looked back
There were no tears in her eyes
And that's got me worried, thinking
Maybe my baby's gotten good at goodbye

That's why I'm sittin' on the front steps
Staring down the road, wond’rin' if she'll come back
This time I don't know
After she packed, when she looked back
There were no tears in her eyes,
And that's got me worried, thinking
Maybe my baby's gotten good at goodbye

Glad to be of help. Cheers........Mel.

Expertise

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.

Ex-record merchandiser with an extensive personal record/cd collection containing everything from Jim Reeves to Dwight Yoakam.
