Question
who sang mississippi

Answer
Hello Patricia,

The female group Pussycat from Holland had a big International hit with a song called "Mississippi" in 1976. Barbara Fairchild recorded a cover version in the USA, also in 1976. Later, in 1992, Cynthia Schloss and Sarah Jory both recorded versions.

Where you can hear a country song from far
And someone plays the honky-tonk guitar
Where all the lights will go out one by one
The people join the sun
And the wind takes it away

Where the Mississippi rolls down to the sea
And lovers found the place they'd like to be
How many times before the song was ending
Love and understanding
Everywhere around

Mississippi, I'll remember you
Whenever I should go away
I'll be longing for the day
That I will be returning again
Mississippi, you'll be on my mind
Everytime I hear this song
Mississippi roll along
Until the end of time

Now the country song forever lost its soul
When the guitar player turned to rock & roll
And everytime when summer nights are falling
I will always be calling, dreams of yesterday

Mississippi, I'll remember you
Whenever I should go.........FADE

That is most probably the song you are referring to, but, just in case it isn't, there were other songs also titled "Mississippi" recorded by Red Foley (1950), John Phillips (1970), Jack Paris (1978), and Charlie Daniels Band (1979).

Glad to be of help. Cheers.........Mel.

Expertise

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.
