ANSWER: Hello Glynn,

The Oak Ridge Boys did that song in 1978. If there was an earlier version in the 60's, I'm afraid I don't know of it. You can see and hear the Oak Ridge Boys sing it at the following site..........

Troy Seals had a song out in 1975 called "Easy", and both John Wesley Ryles and Barry Kaye had similar titled songs out in 1978, but I'm not certain if any of these are the same song or not.

Glad to be of help. Cheers.........Mel.

Answer
Hello again Glynn,

That song was called "Billie's Theme" and it was performed by Hoyt Axton. You can hear him sing it at the following site....

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8fdlGJ8mOmE

Here are the lyrics.........

I never dreamed you'd mean a thing to me
But when I needed your lovin'
You gave me lovin'
The way it oughta be

Sweet country days, the memories are clear
And I'll remember the laughter
Sure miss the laughter
I had when you were here

And when I feel the way I'm feelin'
Can't help believin' you
Made it so easy
They can't take that away

(Instrumental Break)

The girl you were, the girl you used to be
Well, I heard all the stories
You know the stories
Don't mean a thing to me

I loved your face, I loved your quiet ways
If I could paint you in colours
You'd be a rainbow
In a summer day

And when I feel the way I'm feelin'
Can't help believin' you
Made it so easy
They can't take that away
They can't take that away

Glad to be of help. Cheers........Mel.

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.
