Country Music/Song for Father
Expert: Mel Priddle - 6/3/2008
QuestionI am doing a video for my father's 80th birthday. I heard a country song on a video for another father about five years ago. I can not remember the name or even the words. It was a song about his life and what a a great father he was. I need a song or two or three that would go with the video about his life. Father.......
AnswerHello Joan,
Here are a few suggestions........
"MY DAD" - Paul Petersen
He isn't much in the eyes of the world
He'll never make history
No, he isn't much in the eyes of the world
But he is the world to me
My dad, now here is a man
To me he is everything strong
No, he can't do wrong....... my dad
My dad, now he understands
When I bring him troubles to share
Oh, he's always there....... my dad
When I was small, I felt ten feet tall
When I walked by his side
And everyone would say, "That's his son"
And my heart would burst with pride
My dad, oh, I love him so
And I only hope that some day
My own son will say
"My dad, now here is a man"
"DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL" - Karla Bonoff
He was the calm in the storm
Daddy kept us warm
(and) What will I do when he's gone
How will I carry on
Yes, I know when it's his time to go
That I'll have to grow up too
Oh, can't I stay right here
and be daddy's little girl
So, how did the years go so fast
Or did we just lose track
So, now we can't waste any time
I'll make each moment mine
Yes I know when it's his time to go...
The time keeps moving
Life keeps passing
There's still so much to say
But I will go on
I will be strong
I will find my way
When I look in the face of the child
I see you in her eyes
And we're all so much the same
We'll carry on your name
Yes, I know when that you have to go
and I have to grow up too
Oh, can't I stay right here and be daddy's little girl
Oh, can't I stay right here and be daddy's little girl
"SEEIN' MY FATHER IN ME" - Paul Overstreet
Last night we brought the children by to visit their grandpa
And it's plain to see their truly a part of him
While we were there, their grandma took out some old photographs
Man, he sure looked a lot like me back then
I'm seein' my father in me
I guess that's how it's meant to be
And I find I'm more and more like him each day
I notice I walk the way he walks
I notice I talk the way he talks
I'm starting to see my father in me
And I'm happy to see my father in me
And today I took my wife for a walk down that old dirt road
Where my daddy took my mom so many times
And we found the time to mention things we never had before
And we shared some thoughts about the family life
I'm seein' my father in me
I guess that's how it's meant to be
And I find I'm more and more like him each day
I notice I walk the way he walks
I notice I talk the way he talks
I'm starting to see my father in me
And I'm happy to see my father in me
And now, looking back I can recall the times we disagreed
When I could not take hold of his old fashioned ways
And the more I tried to prove him wrong, the more I proved him right
And now I know why he still stood by me when I went through that stage
I'm seein' my father in me
I guess that's how it's meant to be
And I find I'm more and more like him each day
I notice I walk the way he walks
I notice I talk the way he talks
I'm starting to see my father in me
And I'm happy to see my father in me
"DADDY'S HANDS" - Holly Dunn
I remember Daddy's hands
Folded silently in prayer
And reaching out to hold me
When I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story
In the callouses and lines
Years of work and worry
Had left their mark behind
I remember Daddy's hands
How they held my Mama tight
And patted my back
For something done right
There are things I've forgotten
That I loved about the man
But I'll always remember
The love in Daddy's hands
Daddy's hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands
Were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands
Weren't always gentle but I'd come to understand
There was always love in Daddy's hands
I remember Daddy's hands
Working til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly
Just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over
I'd live my life again
And never take for granted
The love in Daddy's hands
Daddy's hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands
Were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands
Weren't always gentle but I'd come to understand
There was always love in Daddy's hands
Daddy's hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands
Were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands
Weren't always gentle but I'd come to understand
There was always love ............ in Daddy's hands
"MY FATHER'S EYES" - Livingston Taylor
My father stands before me
In a place that's his alone
I'm guided to the future
I have the world to own.
I stand up and I'm counted
A thousand miles from home
Why can I see forever
In my father's eyes?
My father sits before me
His hands upon his chin
His fingers touch his lips
Until my story ends.
Patiently we get it straight
The whos, the whens, the whys...
Truth ever protected
In my father's eyes.
My father's eyes...
My father's hands...
Oh, Daddy quickly pick me up
When will I be a man?
When will I live long enough
To make somebody fly?
When will the mirror show me
My father's eyes?
My father's resting in a chair
In a long, cold Winter sun
He falls into a restless sleep
Still itching for the run.
The arms are thin
And the movement slow
But there'll be one more try
Strength has another measure
In my father's eyes.
My father's eyes
My father's hands
Oh, Daddy quickly pick me up
When will I be a man?
When will I live long enough
To make somebody fly?
When will the mirror show me
My father's eyes?
"FATHER TO SON" - Queen
A word in your ear
From father to son
Hear the word that I say
I fought with you
Fought on your side
Long before you were born
Joyful the sound
The word goes around
From father to son to son
And the voice is so clear
Time after time it keeps
Calling you, calling you on
Don't destroy what you see
Your country to be
Just keep building on the ground
That's been won
Kings will be crowned
The word goes around
From father to son to son
Won't you hear us sing
Our family song
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
Now we hand it on
But I've heard it all before
Take this letter that I give you
Take it, sonny, hold it high
You won't understand a word that's in it
But you'll write it all again before you die
A word in your ear
From father to son
Funny you don't hear
A single word that I say
But my letter to you
Will stay by your side
Thru' the years
Till the loneliness is gone
Sing if you will
But the air you breathe
I live to give you
Father to son, father to son
Father to son, father to son
Joyful the sound
Word goes around
Father to son to son
Kings will be crowned
Earth goes around
Father to son to son
Joyful the sound
Word goes around
Father to son to son
Kings will be crowned
Earth goes around
Father to son to son
Glad to be of help. Cheers..........Mel.
