Question
I am wanting this song played at my wedding as my first dance. But I don't know who sings it. It goes: Oh lord it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way. Can't wait to look in the mirror, I get better lookin each day. to know me is to love me" etc. Please help me if you can. Thanks

Answer
Hello Kristin,

This song is called "It's Hard To Be Humble" and was a hit for Mac Davis back in 1980. It's available on the following Mac Davis CDs.....

"Greatest Hits"
"Very Best And More"
"20th Century Masters"

Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way
I can't wait to look in the mirror
'Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man
Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
But I'm doing the best that I can

I used to have a girlfriend
But I guess she just couldn't compete
With all of these love-starved women
Who keep clamouring at my feet
Well, I probably could find me another
But I guess they're all in awe of me
Who cares--I never get lonesome
'Cause I treasure my own company

Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way
I can't wait to look in the mirror
'Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man
Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
But I'm doing the best that I can

I guess you could say I'm a loner
A cowboy outlaw tough and proud
Oh I could have lots of friends if I want 'em
But then I wouldn't stand out in a crowd
Some folks say that I'm egotistical
Hell, I don't even know what that means
But I think it has something to do with the way
That I fill out my skin-tight blue-jeans

Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way
I can't wait to look in the mirror
'Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man
Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
But I'm doing the best that I can

Sounds like a strange choice for a wedding dance, but I guess it's a joke between the two of you :). Best wishes for the big day.

Glad to be of help. Cheers.........Mel.

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.
