Question
Did someone besides the group Atlanta cover this song?

Answer
Hi, Lori,

What is amazing i I heard "Sweet Country Music" by another group on a local radio station just the other day and wondered if it were a new release or something that might not have gotten as much airplay because ALABAMA got the hit from it.  I started to search for it just the other day.  If the song is the same, I'm pretty sure I can give you the answer, accordin to my searches on GOOGLE. Google searches resulted in:

"Atlanta' was a country music band, formed in  1982 for the label MDJ Records.  Atlanta started with 4 member of the touring group, "THE VOGUES," a nightclub and recording act.
The band grew to 9 members and released 'Atlanta Burned Again Last Night"  in 1983, which rose to number 9 on Billboard. (First for an act on an independent label.  Then they were signed to MCA, and  released "Dixie Dreamin," followed by "Sweet Country Music,"  former hitting top ten and the latter hitting top five and number one on Cash Box charts.  The songs are on the album "Pictures." They released several other songs, includng "Alanta" "Sweet Eyed Georgia Girl"  and "Cat Ya Hear That Whistle Blow.  They toured constantly 1983-87 and had to go retire because of business pressures.  The last album, "ALT Alive and Well," was recorded  in the 90's and included live and session recordings.  The source states as of the date of the writing, the album was never released. I'm not sure if it ever was.

I do not watch them.******** I've been singing since I started talking, singing in public since I was 7. Still at it at 56. I have an extensive repertoire as well as lots of music. I also actively research for other people, including local djs, music that no one else can find, especially being given just paraphrased lines of songs. I'm the one @ karaoke that usually gets asked, "Who did this song?" or "Do you know a song that goes" and if it's country, I usually can name the song and artist, sometimes give within a couple of years the year of release. I've got a lot of lyrics in my database, as well as friends with working musicians who do open mic jams who have even more extensive databases than I do.
