About Dr. J. M. Allen
Expertise
I am a long time fan of Bluegrass and older country/folk music (20-70's) and have a fairly extensive tape and sheet music library of the same and have played the music non-professionally for many years. I can (hopefully) assist with information about artists and lyrics. Please try to make it the older stuff, I don't listen to much "modern" country except George Strait anymore....it ain't got no soul anymore :)

Experience
I grew up in the 60's listening to all the old greats and learned to play the music. I have spent a lot of time reading about the genres and have gotten a chance to meet several of the big names over the years.

Country Music - 1976 Country Song

Expert: Dr. J. M. Allen - 10/27/2009

Question
I am looking for the title and artist of a country song by a male around 1976, maybe "Whispers".  Some of the lyrics are "Every day I try to find new places where they don't know our names and they don't know our faces but that's hard to do when you are living in a town this small,  no place to hide for two people like us, separately married and no one to trust, that's why we wait for those evening shadows to fall,  I can hear those whispers, they’re getting loud as thunder talking, saying we should be home now, whispers they're trying to put us under, why can't they leave us alone.

I only heard it a couple of times but I would like to find the recording if it is available.  Would really appreciate your help if you recognize the lyrics.

Answer
I've heard this song...WSM 650 used to play it on the Eddie Stubbs show on Saturday mornings. I thought at first it was "Loose Talk" by Buck Owens (a remake of a Cowboy Copas song) but I don't think so. I can hear the song in my head but can't name the singer. I almost think of Dave and Sugar as the group.....thanks...now it's in my head  :-)
I'll keep looking into it and see what I can come up with...it's on the tip of my tongue.
