Country Music/Name of a song
Expert: BethB - 10/4/2009
QuestionAs memory serves me there was a song being played in the very early 90's (possibly late 80's) sung by a male singer who told a story of his life and all bad things he would do. Part of the chorus said something like "......but Jesus and papa (I think) always loved me....". I listen to country all the time and I never have heard it played. Would you by chance know what song I'm referring to?
AnswerHi Sherry! The song I think you're looking for is "Jesus and Mama" by the Confederate Railroad. I've included the lyrics for you below. Also, I've included a link to a site where you can listen to the song. Hope this helps!

Artist: Confederate Railroad
Song: Jesus and Mama
I made a wish upon a star
I could have a brand new car
Got tired of wishing
So I stole one
Seventeen and knew it all
My dreams were big but my thoughts were small
So many roads somehow I chose
The wrong one
CHORUS
But Jesus and mama always loved me
Even when the devil took control
Jesus and mama always loved me
This I know
I felt tried most all my life
Found new kinds of lows and highs
Never been a husband but I had a lot of wives
To hold me
Headstrong, stubborn, couldn't be told
Like a wild horse that couldn't be rode
A rainbow chaser hungry for gold
And still searchin'
REPEAT CHORUS
I wish mom could see me now
And how I've turned it all around
Lately I've been going down
The right road
Life's a picture that you paint
With blues and grays and cans of canvas
Heaven knows I'm not a saint
But I know
REPEAT CHORUS
