About Beth Burgess
Expertise
I can answer just about any question about lyrics or the artists who recorded the songs--80s and 90s country especially. I don't watch many new videos, but the older the video question, the more likely I am to be able to answer it.

Experience
I've been a country music fan for all of my 25 years! I somehow have a knack for being able to remember all the words to all the songs (and who sang them for the most part) even though I can't carry a tune to save my life!

Education/Credentials
I'm currently enrolled in law school (so if I can't remember an answer off the top of my head, I have excellent research skills!)

Country Music - The Ride

Expert: Beth Burgess - 10/27/2009

Question
Can you advise who wrote "The Ride" that D. A. Coe recorded? Also would like to know who when it was written and if anyone else has recorded it....

Many Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sid!  Here's what I was able to find about "The Ride":

"The Ride" is a song written by Gary Gentry and J.B. Detterline Jr., performed by country singer-songwriter David Allan Coe and released in 1983. The ballad tells the story of an encounter with the ghost of Hank Williams, Sr.  The song first appeared on Coe's "Castles in the Sand/Once Upon a Rhyme" album.  It was first covered by Hank Williams, Jr. and later by Tim McGraw (appearing at the end of the "Real Good Man" music video, which was recorded live).

Hope this helps!
--Beth
