Question
ive been trying to find a song.i know some of the lyrics.they are what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceave they say theres no such thing as a perfect lie.another part is next morning at the office his secretary kissed him and thanked him for the pretty diamond ring

Answer
Hi Maxwell101!  I didn't find a song that matched your lyrics exactly, but I found one that came pretty close.  Gerard Kenny wrote and recorded a song called "The Other Woman, The Other Man," and it matches up pretty closely with the lyrics you asked about.  Here it is!  Hope this helps!

Hi there Beth...I've been trying to find that song for years, too (since about 1984?) I know the story, (it really is quite a story)... about a married woman who goes out of town to spend a weekend with her lover-she tells her husband she's going to see a sick friend.  While she's there, he gives her a beautiful diamond ring, that she of course wants to wear every day of her life, but doesn't know  how to keep the fact of where she got it from her husband.  On the plane going back home, after a wonderful romantic weekend, she came up with what she thought was a 'perfect lie'...she went to a pawn shop at the airport, pawned the ring, took the pawn ticket home to her husband and told him she found the ticket on the airport floor...and asked him to redeem it (just to see what it is).  So he did, and of course it was the beautiful ring.  He took the ring and put it in his pocket, then bought an old toaster that was on the shelf there.  He took the toaster home to his wife and told her this was the item he got with her ticket.  She couldn't admit to knowing the difference, so she would never get the ring back that her lover gave her.  Next morning her husband's secretary/lover smiled and thanked  him for the beautiful ring he gave her...There's no such thing as a perfect lie...I'd be really grateful if you could find it for me.  Thanks

Answer
I'VE FOUND IT!!!  It took me asking a question on another site, only to find that many others had asked the same question...Anyway, I couldn't find a site with the lyrics (which is why we've had so much trouble finding it!), but here's a link to a site that plays the song.  The song is "A Pretty Diamond Ring" by T.G. Sheppard.

I can answer just about any question about lyrics or the artists who recorded the songs--80s and 90s country especially. I don't watch many new videos, but the older the video question, the more likely I am to be able to answer it.

Experience

I've been a country music fan for all of my 20+ years! I somehow have a knack for being able to remember all the words to all the songs (and who sang them for the most part) even though I can't carry a tune to save my life!

Education/Credentials
Juris Doctor. (So if I can't remember an answer off the top of my head, I have the research skills to figure it out!)
