Question
I always thought it was funny, but I cannot remember much of it.  I think part of this song goes something like this: "... so put another log on the fire, fix me up some biscuits and some beans ..." then another part is "... then come and tell me why you're leavin' me."

Answer
Here you are, Janette.......

"PUT ANOTHER LOG ON THE FIRE"
Written by Shel Silverstein
Recorded by Tompall Glaser in 1975

Put another log on my fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans
And go out to the car and change the tyre
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans

Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe and then go fetch my slippers
And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on my fire, babe
And come and tell me why you`re leaving me

Oh, don`t I let you wash the car on Sunday
Don`t I warn you when you`re gettin' fat.
Ain`t I gonna take you fishin' with me some day
Well, a man can`t love a woman more than that

Ain`t I always nice to your kid sister
Don`t I take her driving every night
So sit here at my feet, `cause I like you when you`re sweet
And you know it ain`t feminine to fight

So, put another log on my fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
And go out to the car and change the tyre
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans

Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe and then go fetch my slippers
And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on my fire, babe
And come and tell me why you`re leaving me

Glad to be of help. Cheers........Mel.

Expertise

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.
