About Dr. J. M. Allen
Expertise
I am a long time fan of Bluegrass and older country/folk music (20-70's) and have a fairly extensive tape and sheet music library of the same and have played the music non-professionally for many years. I can (hopefully) assist with information about artists and lyrics. Please try to make it the older stuff, I don't listen to much "modern" country except George Strait anymore....it ain't got no soul anymore :)

Experience
I grew up in the 60's listening to all the old greats and learned to play the music. I have spent a lot of time reading about the genres and have gotten a chance to meet several of the big names over the years.

Country Music - Wedding Song

Expert: Dr. J. M. Allen - 6/22/2009

Question
Hello...

I am a singer/songwriter, working mostly on guitar and piano. My musical
style is mostly folk/roots, but I've been asked to sing at a friends wedding
this fall. The couple has two children together, and they want their wedding to
reflect the fact that they are coming together as a family. Both the bride and
groom are fans of country music, so I wondered if you would recommend any
songs that would be appropriate for a wedding/the coming together of a
family.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
First one to come to mind in this situation is "Dance Little Jean" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band about a little girl when her parents get married (finally)

Here's a website that might help:
http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/goodwin/country.html

My wife picked Tracy Byrd "Keeper of the Stars" for our wedding

"Love can build a bridge" by the Judds

“From This Moment” by Shania Twain and Bryan White

Hope this helps, My best wishes to the new family!!!
