About Beth Burgess
Expertise
I can answer just about any question about lyrics or the artists who recorded the songs--80s and 90s country especially. I don't watch many new videos, but the older the video question, the more likely I am to be able to answer it.

Experience
I've been a country music fan for all of my 25 years! I somehow have a knack for being able to remember all the words to all the songs (and who sang them for the most part) even though I can't carry a tune to save my life!

Education/Credentials
I'm currently enrolled in law school (so if I can't remember an answer off the top of my head, I have excellent research skills!)

Country Music - old song

Expert: Beth Burgess - 6/30/2009

Question
my Uncle Jerry use to sing a song with these words in it. I do not know the name of it, but it must be,"If I had the Wings of and angel"
lyrics something like this: "If I had the wings of an angel, over these prison walls I would fly, if I had the wings of an angel, straight to your arms I would fly.

Do you know this song?
thanks-Karen

Answer
Hi Karen!  I found many versions of this song because it's an old folk song, but I've included the lyrics to the most common version.  Hope this helps!

The Stanley Brothers - "Meet Me By The Moonlight"

Meet me by the moonlight love meet me
Meet me by the moonlight alone alone
I have a sad story to tell you
All down by the moonlight alone

I've always loved you my darling
You said I've never been true
I'd do anything just to please you
I'd die any day just for you

I have a ship on the ocean
All lined with silver and gold
And before my little darling shall suffer
I'll have the ship anchored and sold

If I had wings like an angel
Over these prison walls I would fly
I'd fly to the arms of my darling
And there I'd be willing to die
