About Mel Priddle
Expertise
I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.

Experience
Ex-record merchandiser with an extensive personal record/cd collection containing everything from Jim Reeves to Dwight Yoakam.

Country Music - song title and singer

Question
I remember some lyrics from a country song my Dad used to play from the late '60s or early '70s.  The lyrics I recall are, "waitress, waitress, pretty little waitress, get my order right....give me turnip greens and a bowl beans and a date with you tonight...why you're slingin' that coffee and pie, I'll never never know....you could be the queen of the movie or a television show".  I know it's pretty obscure but appreciate any info on this song.  Thanks, S.Keever

Answer
Hello Sherrill,

That song was called "Waitress, Waitress" and it was recorded by Little Jimmy Dickens. It was released in 1967 on an album titled "Ain't It Fun". Below are the lyrics as I recall them (one or two may be wrong, but it's near enough).

Waitress, waitress, purdy little waitress
Get my order right
I'll take a a bowl of beans, side of greens
And a date with you tonight

You're the prettiest thing I've ever seen
Your bubbling over with a charm
You should be on the cover of a magazine
Or better yet, in my arms

Why you're slingin' that coffee and pie
I will never, never know
You could be the star of a movie
Or on a television show

Waitress, waitress, purdy little waitress
Tell me when you'll be through
And no matter how late, I'll be here a waitin'
Just outside for you

Glad to be of help. Cheers.........Mel.
