Question
There is a C&W song that has lyrics (it may just be a few lines) about a dad being away and the 9 year old brother looking after his sister while dad is away.  Someone thinks it may be an Alan Jackson song, but not for sure.

Hi!  The song that immediately comes to mind is Chuck Wicks' song, "Man of the House."  The little boy in the song is ten, but it otherwise fits your description.  I've included the lyrics for you.  Hope this helps!
