Question
The song dealt with a rich jealous husband.  He thought his wife was having an affair with the gardener.  Town thought she had left with said gardener but a strange flower started growing in the garden. The song could be older than 1980. Not sure it was that popular but I liked it.
Please help.

Answer
Hi Linda!  I'm not sure what keeps happening, but I've tried to answer this question multiple times, and it keeps popping back up as unanswered!  (So, I'm sorry for the delay!!!  Computers have a mind of their own sometimes!)  The song you're looking for is "Rose in Paradise" by Waylon Jennings.  This song was released off of Waylon's 1987 album "Hangin' Tough."  In fact, "Rose in Paradise" was Waylon's last song to hit #1 on the country music charts before his death.  Hope this helps!

Rose in Paradise - Waylon Jennings

She was a flower for the takin',
Hher beauty cut just like a knife...
He was a banker from Macon,
He swore he'd love her all a his life...

He bought her a mansion on the mountain,
With a formal garden and a lot a land...
But paradise became her prison,
That Georgia banker was a jealous man!

Chorus:
Every time he'd talk about her, you could see the fire in his eyes...
He'd say, "I would walk through Hell on Sunday, to keep my Rose in Paradise...

He hired a man to tend the garden,
And keep an eye on her while he was gone..
Some say they ran away together...
Some say that gardener left alone...

Now the banker is an old man...
That mansion's crumbling down...
He sits all day and he stares at the garden...
Not a trace of her was ever found...

(Chorus)

Now there's a rose out in the garden...
Its beauty cuts just like a knife...
They say that it even grows in the winter time...
And blooms in the dead of the night...

I can answer just about any question about lyrics or the artists who recorded the songs--80s and 90s country especially. I don't watch many new videos, but the older the video question, the more likely I am to be able to answer it.

Experience

I've been a country music fan for all of my 20+ years! I somehow have a knack for being able to remember all the words to all the songs (and who sang them for the most part) even though I can't carry a tune to save my life!

Education/Credentials
Juris Doctor. (So if I can't remember an answer off the top of my head, I have the research skills to figure it out!)
