Country Music/country western song

Question
Timeline approximately early 1990s through early 2000s: I heard, twice, a song on a country western station containing something like "crow sitting on a fence" and the song was, I think, something about failed love (what else); a woman was singing. Would like to be able to hear it again, or at least get artist, song name, possibly album name.  Thanks, Joan

Answer
Hi Joan!  The song that immediately came to mind when I read your question was Lila McCann's "Down Came a Blackbird," which was first released from her 1997 album "Lila."  I've included the lyrics and a link to the video below, so you can see what you think.  Hope this helps!

Artist: Lila McCann
Song: Down Came A Blackbird
Album: Lila

Down came a blackbird
Set on a fence
Talkin' in riddles
Makin' no sense
Cause she's gone
You're baby's gone
Down came a blackbird
Perched on pole
Took out a mirror
And said, "Son, behold"
Cause she's gone
Your baby's gone

Gone like a dollar spent on a drink
Head hangin' over the kitchen sink
Gone like the wind through a cabin door
Never gonna blow that way no more
Gone like the song of a mockingbird
Laughing at every little thing he heard
Gone like a dream in a puff of smoke
She ain't comin' back and it ain't no joke
She's gone
You're baby's gone

Down came a blackbird
Set by the fire
Said "the future's comin' at you like a freight train
And you're walkin' a wire"
Cause she's gone
You're baby's gone

Gone like a dollar spent on a drink
Head hangin' over the kitchen sink
Gone like a dream in a puff of smoke
She ain't comin' back and it ain't no joke
She's gone
You're baby's gone

She says she doesn't want a man who hangs around the house
Who doesn't say a word unless he's shootin' off his mouth
There's got to be a better way to be a lovin' wife
If she stays here she'll end up her waitress for life

Down came a blackbird
Set on a fence
Talkin' in riddles
And makin' absolutely perfect sense
Cause she's gone
You're baby's gone

Gone like a dollar spent on a drink
Head hangin' over the kitchen sink
Gone like the wind through a cabin door
Never gonna blow that way no more
Gone like the song of a mockingbird
Laughing at every little thing he heard
Gone like a dream in a puff of smoke
She ain't comin' back and it ain't no joke
She's gone
You're baby's gone

Down came a blackbird
Down came a blackbird

Expertise

I can answer just about any question about lyrics or the artists who recorded the songs--80s and 90s country especially. I don't watch many new videos, but the older the video question, the more likely I am to be able to answer it.

Experience

I've been a country music fan for all of my 20+ years! I somehow have a knack for being able to remember all the words to all the songs (and who sang them for the most part) even though I can't carry a tune to save my life!

Education/Credentials
Juris Doctor. (So if I can't remember an answer off the top of my head, I have the research skills to figure it out!)
