Question
I understand that Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson were known as the OUTLAWS, Who was the fourth person on the album?

Answer
Hello John,

Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings (along with some other singers like Johnny Paycheck, David Allan Coe and Billy Joe Shaver) were once referred to as "Outlaws" because they rebelled somewhat against what was known as the "Nashville Sound", a more pop sounding type of Country music that was popular with Nashville record producers throughout the 60's and 70's.

RCA Records took advantage of the "Outlaw" tag by compiling and releasing an album of previously recorded songs by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Tompall Glaser, and Waylon's wife Jessi Colter. This 1976 album was called "Wanted! The Outlaws" and it became the first "Country" album to sell over one million copies. The track listing was as follows:

My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys (Waylon Jennings)
Honky Tonk Heroes (Waylon Jennings)
I'm Looking for Blue Eyes (Jessi Colter)
You Mean to Say (Jessi Colter)
Suspicious Minds  James (Waylon & Jessi)
Good Hearted Woman  (Waylon & Willie)
Heaven or Hell  (Willie & Waylon)
Me and Paul (Willie Nelson)
Yesterday's Wine (Willie Nelson)
T for Texas (Tompall Glaser)
Put Another Log on the Fire (Tompall Glaser)

In 1996 RCA issued a 20th Anniversary edition of the album on CD which contained an extra ten tracks:

Slow Movin' Outlaw (Waylon Jennings)
I'm a Ramblin' Man (Waylon Jennings)
If She's Where You Like Livin' (Jessi Colter)
It's Not Easy (Jessi Colter)
Why You Been Gone So Long (Jessi Colter)
Under Your Spell Again (Jessi & Waylon)
I Ain't the One (Waylon & Jessi)
You Left Me a Long, Long Time Ago (Willie Nelson)
Healing Hands of Time (Willie Nelson)
Nowhere Road (Waylon & Willie)

In 1985 Waylon and Willie got together with Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash to form a supergroup called The Highwaymen. This resulted in the top-selling single and album "Highwayman". They produced two follow-up albums, "Highwayman 2" in 1990 and "The Road Goes On Forever" in 1995.

In 1998 Waylon joined with Mel Tillis, Bobby Bare and Jerry Reed to record a live album of Shel Silverstein songs called "Old Dogs".

Glad to be of help. Cheers..........Mel.

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.
