Question
The song "Heartbroke" written by Guy Clark, who sang it first?  Was it Ricky Skaggs or George Strait?

Answer
That’s a tough one, because both men began performing “Heartbroke” in their live concerts back in 1981.

George Strait recorded the song as a single in 1982 and added it to his second album “Strait From the Heart”, where it went to #1 on Billboard’s country music charts.

Ricky Skaggs included his own version on his album “Super Hits” in 1993, and then again on “Country Gentlemen” in 1998.

Of course, if you want to get *really* technical, you could say that writer Guy Clark was the first to perform the song live, back in the mid-70s.  It’s also on his album “Keepers”, from 1997.
