Country Music/old country music tune
Expert: Mel Priddle - 8/7/2006
QuestionMy father used to sing a tune when I was a very young girl in the mid 60's and Ive been searching for a recorded version. I don't know who sang it or the title. Some of the words in the song goes like this: Beneath the moonlit skies dear, t'was there that we first met, t'was there that we both promised, how can you e're forget. My letters all unopened keep coming back to me; In this letter darling, I'm asking this last plea. Do you love another, Has he stole your heart, What have I done dear, Fate has played its part. (a line here that I dont remember) as long days drift on by. If you don't really care dear, then really why should I? The days seem oh so lonely, now that you are gone, What have I done dear? tell me what is wrong. ( there are more lines which I can't recall). I hope you can help me.
AnswerHello Sharon,
First of all, let me thank you for providing such detailed information. You'd be surprised just how many people don't.
Now, although you have provided so many of the song's lyrics, I'm afraid it's not a song that I personally recognise. However, I've done a good bit of searching and I have located a song that just might be it, although I can't be certain.
The song is called "Darling, Do You Love Another" and it was recorded by a Country/Bluegrass outfit called The Prairie Ramblers in 1941. Their recorded music is not always easy to come by, but you can find a CD, with this song on it, for sale at the following site:

There is one other possibility, and that is a song recorded in 1958 titled "Do You Love Another" by a singer named Doug Weiss. Unfortunately I've not been able to find a copy of this song for sale anywhere.
Please realise that I have not been able to listen to either of these recordings myself, so I have no way of knowing if they match your lyrics or not.
Hope that's of some help to you. Cheers........Mel.
