Question
I would like to know the title and artist for a song that I only know part of the lyrics  -  first verse was something like "She was born in an old unpainted shack on the wrong side of town"
first chorus had the words "all of her clothes were second hand not a penny to her name"  the next verse told how she marries him, he gives her everything she has ever needed and she begins cheating on him - the last chorus has the words "someday she'll be all alone and she'll need a helping hand, and I'll be there to take her home my poor little raggedy ann"  It was played on the radio in Bradenton Florida in the sixties.  Not sure what year, I was just a kid.

Answer
Hello Sylvia,

I know it's not quite the same as you remember, but this is the only one I know of that it might be.........

RAGGEDY ANN
(Written by Dallas Frazier & Arthur Leo Owens)
(Recorded by Charlie Rich - 1968)

Over there across the tracks inside a dingy two-room shack
Lives a girl who spends her spare time cryin', Raggedy Ann
The patches that she tries to hide keep tearin' down her heart has cried
And makes it hard for her to keep on tryin', Raggedy Ann

But here's someone who loves her and to him she's Cinderalla
He's just waitin' for the day until she's old enough for him to come and take her away
To a world where there'll never be no hand-me-downs
Safe in the arms of the one who loves her and understands Raggedy Ann

Yes, Raggedy Ann I love you and to me you're my Cinderella
I'm just waitin' for the day until you're old enough for me to come and take you away
To a world where there'll never be no hand-me-downs
Safe in my arms cause I love you and I understand Raggedy Ann

Over there across the tracks inside a dingy two-room shack
Lives a girl who spends her spare time cryin', Raggedy Ann

Hope that's of some help. Cheers........Mel.

Expertise

I have been hooked on Country music since first hearing Jim Reeves in the late 50s. Two of the greatest nights of my life were seeing The Mavericks and Reba McEntire live in London. I am more at home with traditional Country music, but am happy to try and help with any questions relating to songs up to 2000. Please note that I DO NOT have the same knowledge about country music videos or singers private lives.
