Subject: could she be in calf ???

Question
Hi i have a 8yr old brahman cow which i reared. She has never had a calf , or been with a bull.I have been running her recently with my other cows and bull. She has a very promenent udder and what seems to be colostrem present.Everyone here says she is having a phantom pregnancy and she is to old to have gone in calf.Im not sure it is a phantom, as she has really dropped and is hollow in the flank. What are your thoughts, could she be in calf

Answer
Vanessa,

I would say that she is bred, with a real calf, not a phantom pregnancy, and she is not too old to have a calf.

Make sure that you are prepared for her calf, and figure out the date she should have it. The month you put her in with the bull, and then add nine months.
