Question
Hi Sheila,
Our family went to Lake Michigan on vacation together.  While there, we collected sand, rocks and shells.  Probaly about a cup worth.  My son is 4 years old and I would like to incase them in something unbreakable, and can be sealed, so he can move the "jar" around and look at them.  I thought about a shadow box, but I am afraid the sand will leak out.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Check your local craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, etc) and look for a plastic container with a lid. This could even be a water bottle, sippy cup or anything with a screw-on lid. Since you want it to be "fun" yet "unbreakable", just use your hot glue gun or a good craft glue to permanently fix the lid on after you put all the goodies in!

You may even be able to find some clear acrylic Christmas ornaments that you can fill, then seal (depending on size of shells).

Once you stop thinking "FANCY", you'll see all kinds of cute containers that will work for your project and keep your 4-year old "on the beach" for hours!

Good luck!
