Question -
Does anyone know how to make ice cubes out of polymer clay?  That is, what color of clay or combination of colors (and amounts of each color)would work best?

Answer -
Hi!  I am guessing you are making ice cubes for a craft project.  There is no polymer clay which is completely transparent.  I have seen glass ice cubes used, with polymer clay characters around or on them, such as penguins or snow men.  Without knowing the project or scale, it is difficult to recommend an alternative material.  If you could give me more information, I might be able to help.  Nanetta

Answer
Dear Carmen -
I would suggest using ultra thick embossing powder in clear.  You could melt it onto a non-stick surface such as this MeltArt Non-stick sheet (link below).  It is great if you have a melting pot, but if not, melt the crystals with an embossing gun.  You can create thickness by adding layers.  When it is the thickness you want, let it cool completely.  You can crack it with a craft hammer.  You probably should place a piece of paper over the UTEE just so it won't mar. This would make great cracked ice.  You can even go over the edges with the heat gun to smoothe them if you like.
You could probably also build up the surface thick enough for this scale and score the sheet with an x-acto blade, bend the sheet to crack it at the score line for cubes and heat-smoothe the edges.  Experiment and please let me know how it all turns out!  Nanetta
