Question I kept my ex on my health care and he had surgery and never paid his bill ,well hospital got a judgment on both of us.I never knew about it until 2 years later when I applied for credit for a home.I called the hospital and explained and took them copies of divorce papers they gave me a letter stating they were having the judgment vacated from me only ,when this happens will my credit score go up and how much?
Answer If an open judgement is removed from your credit reports, your score should go up. Unfortunately, it is impossible for me to say how much. The FICO scoring methods are proprietary information and a closely guarded secret. There are just so many factors that go into a credit score as well.
I will say a judgement is a MAJOR derogatory. In general, you should also see a larger increase if this is your only derogatory item. If your credit is littered with other bad information, you may not see as large of an increase.
As an aside, you may still have to do some work to get that off your credit reports. If they are only sending you a letter, you have to go to the court and actually get the judgement vacated. Then you have to dispute the account with the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and Transunion) to actually delete it from the credit reports.
Good luck.
