Credit Repair/Best way to repair my credit

Question
Good Afternoon,

I have one simple question and I will keep it short.  I am in a bad financial position (unemployed, no money saved) and my credit is very bad due to me not paying my debt which includes credit card payments, car payment (car was repossessed), traffic tickets and other misc. bills. What I would like to know is considering I have around $12000 debt, which is not a large amount, should i go ahead and file for bankruptcy or slowly start paying back once i find a job? Which of the 2 options will help me repair my credit faster? I am 23 years old and need to get my finances back on track. I live in California.

Thank you

Answer
Dear Ignacio,

Thank you  for your question.

In short, filing bankruptcy will have a long term negative influence on your credit.
