Creditors and Bankruptcy - Dealing with CC

Question
Michael,
Long story short, we have $60,000 in credit card debt. Many things made this perfect storm, but we find ourselves at this point unable to make min payments and live. We have been using savings to make each month, but need to do something soon as savings is almost gone.We are not behind in anything yet. Debt Mangement was unable to help, they suggested BK. I did speak to a lawyer (NYS), he feels we will have no problem getting a Chapter 7, but we REALLY do not want to do this!!! I really want to work something out with the CC, it would be too shameful to us to go BK. My question is, with all your experience with the cc companies, do you think they would be wiling to accept lower than min payments to keep us from going BK? Is there a certain way to talk to them to make them understand we do want to pay but it has to leave us money to live on too? I'm so worried they are going to refuse to work with us because it's somekind of tax write off. Is there any other alternatives to BK that you know of? We looked into debt settlement, not interested, sounds like a major scam. Would appreciate any help to keep us floating, and only damage our credit scores somewhat. Thank you

Answer
Dear Marie,

Thank you for your question.

We should speak about this over the phone.  There are a lot of factors we need to take a look at before giving you a proper answer.

Sincerely Yours,

Michael Moore
