Question
dear sir
if the striker hits the ball and starts running and while running for the second run both players leaves the crease and before they cross the stumps at the non strikers end are broken so can you please tell me is it necessary to cross for the run out or the person running towards the end where the stumps are broken is out

Answer
Hi Bhavik

Thank you for your question.

In the situation you've described, the striker would be out.

In the case of run out dismissals. the batsman closer to the set of stumps broken that is deemed to be out. So in your example, since the batsman have not crossed, the striker is closer to the wicket that has been broken and so he is out.

Hope this helps

A link to an article on my website (CricTrivia.com) has appeared on Cricinfo in the past.
