Cricket/Match Result

Dear Colin,

Hope you are doing good. This is Hussain from UAE and I represent a local Cricket Club here.

My question to you is we had a tournament match (t20) a month back which was tied this was a league match just to add, we had a super over which batting side completed when opponents came to chase the target, due to some religious reason both the teams rush back and the match was not completed. Now after 40 days we are told the match will resume again from the same stage where it was left.

Is this possible that we need to play where it was left as the time, conditions everything is different. Or both the teams will get a points each to settle the points table.

I will really appreciate your respond to the above argument we are having with the organizers.

Many Thanks

Dear Hussain

Unfortunately MCC Laws of Cricket can be over-ridden by local organisers.

However, I would suggest that you look at Laws 21.9 and 21.10 which say that the result cannot be changed after the time stated for the conclusion of the match ....

I do think it is ridiculous to suggest that it should be resumed at the point where it was broken off.  You need to re-assemble the same 22 players, 2 umpires, same ball, same pitch, batsmen at same end .... all for (perhaps) 10 minutes!
