What happens when a person walks in the United States embassy and offers to sell information from another country to the United States and this information is very useful to the national security of the United States? He makes it clear from the beginning that he wants MI6 involved because he is more comfortable in dealing with the British than with the Americans. He says it if decided to defect to the United States he wants to be resettled in the United Kingdom, not the United States.

Defector is a person who gives up allegiance to one state in exchange for allegiance to another, in a way that is considered illegitimate by the first state. More broadly, it involves abandoning a person, cause or doctrine to which one is bound by some tie, as of allegiance or duty.

Should any person walk into a US Embassy in a foreign country and wish to provide information, they would most likely be thoroughly debriefed and their information would be 'vetted' by the Station Chief (CIA), a member of his staff, a Legal Attache (FBI) or the Country Attache (DEA) - depending on the nature of the information. However, US National Security would usually fall under the LegAt of the FBI.

If the information provided is accurate and actionable, US representatives would no doubt coordinate with the British Embassy for asylum and housing.
