Crime & Law Enforcement Issues & Death Penalty/Accident reports

Question
Hello, I am in California first of all. I was wondering if its possible to refute a traffic accident report which the responding officer has made about my accident. He found me at fault for reasons that were just not correct and I wanted to send in a rebuttal of sorts. But will anyone care? Will it even be taken into consideration? or just tossed out? And if i were to send it, who would i send it to? How can i make sure it is added to the report and/or the report edited? I fully disagree with his statements.

Answer
I have no idea if you can refute a traffic accident report.  Remember there are thousands of police departments in this country and every one of them have their own policies.  Have you tried to meet with the officer and his supervisor?  It seems that you are telling me that you are thinking about mailing something in.  I don't see any sense in that.  A face to face meeting will be given much more weight than a letter in the mail.

Expertise

Please do NOT ask questions about potential jail sentences that you or your friends may receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer or a parole officer so questions about those subjects will be rejected. I am a police officer with 26 years experience. Can answer questions about crime, police procedure, investigations, criminal law, search and seizure, traffic offenses. Prefer not to answer questions on the death penalty. Please do not ask homework questions. Remember this. The law in every state is different so questions about laws that are specific to your state could be difficult to answer. I also cannot give you legal advice on what to do or not to do in court. I have worked with authors in the past and will be happy to review scenarios or plots with authors to check for believability or accuracy.
