Question
My husband pulled an official MVR from Ga where his license were issued. It shows all issues clear and current status of license simply expired. However, he went in Florida, where we now live to obtain a license and they advised he has 11 failure to appears in North Carolina. All of these are from 1999. They were for original tickets that ranged from no seatbelt to wreckless operation. Although these are not attached to his drivers license, they are in some sort of National database that have had his license suspended for over 5 years. Does this expire or can this remain forever and continue to have his license suspended? Please help! Also, is there a way for me to obtain a report of everything in that (NATIONAL DATABASE) noone seems to know where to direct me on that issue.

Answer
Tara,

I don't have any idea what an "MVR" is becuase that is a term that is unique to Georgia.  That is why I ask people not to use abbreviations that are unique to one particular state.

I can tell you that all states have recpirocal agreements with each other and that is why Florida is communicating with North Carolina telling Florida that your husband has eleven failure to appears.  My advice would be for him to go to North Carolina and take care of the things that he should have taken care of a long time ago.  This will follow him forever and he will never get a license to drive and it will even have deeper consequences the longer he lets it go.

I would also advise him to get an attorney for advice on how to take care of all of those failures to appear at once.  That is what attorneys are for.

Please do NOT ask questions about potential jail sentences that you or your friends may receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer or a parole officer so questions about those subjects will be rejected. I am a police officer with 26 years experience. Can answer questions about crime, police procedure, investigations, criminal law, search and seizure, traffic offenses. Prefer not to answer questions on the death penalty. Please do not ask homework questions. Remember this. The law in every state is different so questions about laws that are specific to your state could be difficult to answer. I also cannot give you legal advice on what to do or not to do in court. I have worked with authors in the past and will be happy to review scenarios or plots with authors to check for believability or accuracy.
