Question
I live in Ohio   In July there were a few cars broken into which involved some cds, a stereo, a wallet, a bible, a day planner being taken  After 2 1/2 months my son which is now 16, 15 at the time recvd court papers.  We went to court and he pleaded not guilty.  the case was set for a trial.  we asked for a court appointed att and were told we had to get a deniel from the public defender first  we did this last week while in court yesterday we told the judge this and he said no that we could not get a court appointed att and that trial was set for friday.  one of the harges was a felony it involved a wallet that had 60.00 dollars a debit card and a day planner.  but the stereo was only a misd.  does this seem right  I thought a felony was over 500.00  to me the stereo was valued at more than 60.00  is there some kind of law/rule that states they must provide you with a court appointed att  please give any help you can give

You have to prove you can't afford a private attorney to get a free one.  If jail time is unlikily they may not provide one. Was he charged as a juvinile or as an adult?
If its juvi court typically the court not there to punish,
but to reform and look at the best interests of the child, its not like a criminal trial.

What are exact charges?
It should be on the papers.
