Question
For the last 6 weeks now a communication company has been calling me. They think my number is one of their employee's work numbers. When this started I would say sorry you have the wrong number. The next week when they called I politely asked if they could take my number off their calling list, this was the wrong number. Today is a Sunday, they called twice already. My husband and I both asked to talk to supervisors before, sometimes they'll let me talk to them but they never have done anything. I have even threatened to have my lawyer call, but still nothing. Basically their rude and will not fix my problem. Now what to I do?

Answer
Laura,

First of all the law is different in every state so I can't really say if this is against the law in your state but in my state it would not be against state law because there is no criminal intent.  In other words a different person is calling you everytime most likely and they are not doing it with the intent to harras you or cause you discomfort.  If it was your ex calling you a thousand times then obviously it would be against the law because he has a criminal intent.

Are you on the federal "Do Not Call" list?  If not get on their right now.  It is online and easy to find.

In the meantime I will tell you what I have done in the past that gets these consumer matters settled really quickly.  I have looked for every consumer complaint site that I could find and written my story on there and almost everytime I had a boss calling me within weeks willing to settle the problem.  One time I received a gift card to a supermarket chain in my area and the complaint involved an electronics company.

In the meantime just hang up.

Please do NOT ask questions about potential jail sentences that you or your friends may receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer or a parole officer so questions about those subjects will be rejected. I am a police officer with 26 years experience. Can answer questions about crime, police procedure, investigations, criminal law, search and seizure, traffic offenses. Prefer not to answer questions on the death penalty. Please do not ask homework questions. Remember this. The law in every state is different so questions about laws that are specific to your state could be difficult to answer. I also cannot give you legal advice on what to do or not to do in court. I have worked with authors in the past and will be happy to review scenarios or plots with authors to check for believability or accuracy.
