Question
Jack

My vehicle was stolen two days ago. I want to do something but I dont even know if there is anything I can do. I live in AZ and the vehicle was stolen at 8am in front of a customers house I was working at.

Do I just sit and wait for a call from the Police or should I be calling someone to follow-up.

Thanks for your time,
jallison

Answer
Jallison,

You didn't say if you had reported the car stolen to the police but I am assuming that you did.  If you didn't then do so by all means.  Unless you live in a rural area I am not sure what you can do.  To tell the truth most stolen vehicles are recovered by either complaints from citizens about unfamiliar cars parked in neighborhoods or by citizens calling the police about suspicious cars.  I would check with the officer who took the report (assuming that you did report it stolen) and see if he has any suggestions.

Expertise

Please do NOT ask questions about potential jail sentences that you or your friends may receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer or a parole officer so questions about those subjects will be rejected. I am a police officer with 26 years experience. Can answer questions about crime, police procedure, investigations, criminal law, search and seizure, traffic offenses. Prefer not to answer questions on the death penalty. Please do not ask homework questions. Remember this. The law in every state is different so questions about laws that are specific to your state could be difficult to answer. I also cannot give you legal advice on what to do or not to do in court. I have worked with authors in the past and will be happy to review scenarios or plots with authors to check for believability or accuracy.
