Question
Hi! I live in Oklahoma and my husband and I had bought some expensive equipment for his truck. Because these things were so expensive we decided that it would be a good idea to go get the best alarm system there is. So we did and yesterday night someone busted out the window and stole everything and the alarm didn't go off. We filed a police report and they (the police) tested the alarm out and it wouldn't go off then either. Can I sue the alarm company for not setting the alarm up right? I can't afford to fix the window and to replace the equipment...please help. thank you

Answer
Your question probably should be asked to an attorney but certainly you can sue the manufacturer of the alarm system.  In fact you can sue anyone that you want.  I can sue you because I don't like the color of your shirt but that does not mean you are going to win.  My advice would be to check with the office of the small claims court in your county and find out what the expense and procedure is in filing a small claims court suit.  If you are going to sue for alot of money then it is best to consult with an attorney because you know the alarm manufacturer is going to have one.

Please do NOT ask questions about potential jail sentences that you or your friends may receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer or a parole officer so questions about those subjects will be rejected. I am a police officer with 26 years experience. Can answer questions about crime, police procedure, investigations, criminal law, search and seizure, traffic offenses. Prefer not to answer questions on the death penalty. Please do not ask homework questions. Remember this. The law in every state is different so questions about laws that are specific to your state could be difficult to answer. I also cannot give you legal advice on what to do or not to do in court. I have worked with authors in the past and will be happy to review scenarios or plots with authors to check for believability or accuracy.
