Crime & Law Enforcement Issues & Death Penalty/arming police

Question
I am doing a debate in school on the arming of police.  I have found almost no information on my subject and I was wondering if you could help me.  I am on the con side of the argument- as in not arming police.  My argument is about how criminals who see police armed are more likely to arm themselves.  Do you know anything about this particular argument?  If you do please tell me, I would be most happy.  Thank you

Answer
Syd,

I'm sorry but I don't get involved in supplying students with material for debates, etc.  In the past I have found myself quoted on web sites and in school papers.  I would suggest that instead of frustrating yourself looking around the Internet that you simply go down to your local police department and interview several officers.  You might have to make an appointment but a face to face interview would be much more valuable than a source on the Internet.

Expertise

Please do NOT ask questions about potential jail sentences that you or your friends may receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer or a parole officer so questions about those subjects will be rejected. I am a police officer with 26 years experience. Can answer questions about crime, police procedure, investigations, criminal law, search and seizure, traffic offenses. Prefer not to answer questions on the death penalty. Please do not ask homework questions. Remember this. The law in every state is different so questions about laws that are specific to your state could be difficult to answer. I also cannot give you legal advice on what to do or not to do in court. I have worked with authors in the past and will be happy to review scenarios or plots with authors to check for believability or accuracy.
