Question
I don't know if u'll be able to answer this but i hope u can.... My boyfriend was arrested in Ny 2 days ago and they didn't read him his rights, ask his name,or tell him what he was charged wit, or anything! They just jumped out there cars like a swat team and arrested him and others. Now he wasn't doing anything bad other than the wrong place at the wrong time. Now he charged wit a felony...can they do that or isn't that illegal?

Answer
Hi Tesheena,

I am sorry to hear about your boyfriends arrest. But to be honest with you, without being there or having more information on what happened, what he is charged with and such, I really can't help you much.

I can tell you that is is not required that we read people their rights like you see on TV. Thats just TV. The only time we are actually required to read someone their rights is when we are going to ask them questions about a specific crime they are the suspects in.

I would say that what you need to do is make sure you get all the information you can before you make any decisions. An attorney would be a good idea. Make sure your boyfriend has legal representation. Once you find out what the charges are you may be able to get bail or get him released.

Good luck, sorry I couldn't help with the limited information, but I wouldn't want to give you incorrect information either.
