Question Here is the situation: Me and my boyfriend drove about 45 minutes to this guys house, to see if he was able to train a dog that we were thinking about purchasing. When we got to the dog trainers house there was no answer at the door. So, we phoned a friend of the dog trainers' (the informant) to see if the dog trainer had been seen at his home. He told us no but told us that we were more than welcome to come and wait at his house until the dog trainer came home. So instead of driving back home, we went to the friends' house and waiting for the dog trainer to get home. We sat in the house for about 20 minutes and then all of a sudden police officers kicked in the door waiving guns in our faces telling us to get down. We did as we were told. The cops searched our pockets emptying out keys, money etc. We were then separated, me in 1 room my boyfriend in the living room and the renter of the house (friend of dog trainer) in the kitchen. They strip searched me and my boyfriend. For them to be raiding the house the only thing they did was look for others in the house. After they strip searched me they kept me in the room and they were telling me how they found crack cocaine in the sunroof area of the truck rental that I had. At first they tried to pin everything on my mother. telling me how she would have to take the charge because the vehicle was rented in her name. Me myself not knowing the law, especially when it comes to drugs. I have to admit I was scared. But I told them that whatever it is, my mother has nothing to do with it. My mother has zero tolerance for drugs. So then they go on to tell me that I should admit to having the drugs because the judge would go easy on me. They said that because I was the driver of the vehicle I would be held responsible anyway, but the judge would go easy on me if I signed a statement claiming the drugs. So unfortunetly I did sign the statement saying that it was mines. Everything that they told me was what I said in the statement. I believed the cops and they actually got me to admit to having something that I didn't have. They did not read me my rights until after booking! And they also confiscated the rental vehicle. I thought that it was strange that they searched the rental without permission and claim that they found something. I don't know if they put that there themselves or if another renter may have left it there. But it upsets me because this can go on my record and I have never gotten so much as a parking ticket. They didn't check the friend of the dog trainers' vehicle which was parked right next to mines in the driveway. When we were exiting the house they were still searching the rental vehicle. People that were incarcerated with me says that the friend of the dog trainer is a informant, so the police may have come on a tip. So I believe that we were set up! But I do wish to know if I was violated in any way. I really hope that this case can be beaten because it would ruin my record and I truly don't need that. Thank you for your time. Thank you for taking the time to write to me about the search when you visited the dog trainers home.
I am reading your narration of the events that took place and what I can see is that you went to visit some guy to train your dog, he was not home, so you called his friend, he tells you to come kick it at his house and wait. You then drive 20 minutes to the friends home and then the friends house gets raided.
You then were all taken to different parts of the house and questioned, which is natural.
The biggest mistake that you made was signing the admission statement that you had drugs in the sunroof of the car. You, were just a visitor.
When you signed that document, that gave the officers probable cause to search the auto.
Why did the other guys truck not get searched? Because he was the informant!
Bottom Line, It sounds to me like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time and just happened to have drugs, although that is not why you were at this guys home.
Since you signed the statement, which I have not seen, you will be grilled on the affirmations that you made on those papers.
Let me know how this goes.. this is a really weird case....it simply makes no sense.
