Question
i know a guy who was arrested for robbery in the first degree. he is 18 years old and has a prior felony.what would his maximum sentance be?

Answer
Zach,

Unfortunately all states have different laws, definition and punishments.  Example Armed Robbery in Michigan is any term of years up to life.  However I don't know of any robbery suspect who got life, just for robbery.  All states have sentencing guidelines that take in to account a myriad of variables.  So truthfully the maximum penalty is seldom if ever imposed.  The easiest way to find out for your state is to do a Internet search for robbery in your state.  The punishment is usually listed in the statute. Or pick up the phone and call your local police they don't mind answering this type of question.

Good luck to your friend
